Veniamin Safonov

Veniamin Safonov was born in a small village in southern Russia, in 1931.  In 1955, he graduated from the well-established, and reputable, Artistic College of Orel.  After graduating, Safonov relocated to the small city of Podolsk, near Moscow.  This is where he became enamored with the beauty of the Russian landscape.

Safonov attempts to give emotion to his paintings through his use of rich, bright, strong and deep colours.  Safonov was a very productive painter, and worked extremely quickly in order to catch the unique beauty of each particular moment he attempted to paint.  The Safonov collection in Noveks Gallery consists of more than 80 oil canvases and cardboards.

Although he participated in several group exhibitions, during his lifetime, Safonov was only allowed one personal exhibition.  It was not until after his death that professional art critics and art gallery facilitators finally discovered Safonov’s true talent.

Safonov’s legacy has now inherited by his daughter who has been privileged to see her father’s work recognized in art galleries and with private collectors throughout the world.

Noveks Art Gallery takes pride in sharing the legacy of this incredibly talented Russian artist with the Canadian public.
