Ivan Kharchenko

Ivan Kharchenko was born in Kuban, Ukraine, in 1947. Later in life he moved to Russia, where he studied the fine art of painting at the Moscow Technological College . In 1983, he became a member of the Artists Union of Russia, the former USSR, which is a very privileged professional body recognized and supported by the official Soviet system. Since 1971, Kharchenko has participated in numerous group and personal exhibitions in Russia and abroad.  A number of his works can be found around the world in various museums and private collections. His artwork is divided into two distinct mediums: oil and batik.  Batik is an encaustic, wax painting, on silk or cotton fabric.

Kharchenko is famous for his classic Russian landscapes, which tend to invoke a sense of nostalgia for a simpler time. These moody pieces are created through the application of a delicate pearly colour, and thoughtful, long brush strokes. The landscape paintings on display in our collection have been influenced by batik creations and are very typical for Ivan Kharchenko.
